'Nothing to celebrate' on Mozambican Women's Day
Mozambican women's group says there's nothing to slotxo celebrate during this year's
women's day commemorated on 7 April because of attacks by Islamist fighters in
the north of the country.
The Mozambican Women’s Organisation's Cabo Delgado secretary Cristina Mateus said
women are most affected by the fighting in Mozambique that has led to deaths, hunger
and people fleeing their homes.
The Niassa province women's secretary Margarida Inacio pleaded the military to
continue efforts to stop the fighting.
Militants linked to the Islamic State (IS) group are behind the conflict in
the predominantly Muslim region.
The fighting has left more than 2,500 people dead and 700,000 displaced since
the insurgency began in 2017.
